Choose to Infuse, Don't Force Those Goals

Writer's picture: Elise SinhaElise Sinha

Are you like me?  I roll into the new year with goals, deliverables, metrics and all the things we are supposed to do to achieve what we want.

This year I am taking a different approach.  Instead of setting myself up with strict timelines, project plans, and deliverables, I’m choosing to “Infuse”.

What does that mean?  I’m taking a softer approach: how can I “infuse” more of what I want this year? More movement, more healthy foods, more diversity in my work, more connections.

Infusing is softer and more positive: it does not create stress, heaviness or constraint.  Think of infusing flavor into a dish... it’s fun, whimsical, and hopeful.

How do we make this work?  I’m starting each day by deciding what I want to infuse the day with.

How will I show up today for my clients, how will I show up for myself, my family and my community?

Is it movement, gratitude, perseverance, or grace?

I pick one or two “infusions” for the day.

To do this, I’ve created a new morning routine that looks like this:

  • No news or social media in the first hour of the morning- I’m keeping my brain light and open

  • Meditation for the day... what do I want to infuse today and how do i want to show up

  • An inventory of how I feel and what I need

  • A cup of tea

  • Some stretching

  • Read something small to learn

  • An inventory of the day- what needs to get done and what the schedule looks like

It’s simple, calm and purposeful.

And I get to choose what I Infuse each day.

How will you choose to infuse?  I’d love to hear your routine or your approach to your goals.  Let’s do this together and keep the conversation going!
