Tapping Into Your Sage Brain

I’ve been spending more time learning about the Sage Brain through the Positive Intelligence (PQ) program created by Shirzad Chamine, and I have to tell you… it’s changing how I move through my day.

Most of us spend so much time in our “Survivor Brain”—the part filled with stress, judgment, doubt, worry, and overthinking.

But the Sage Brain feels totally different. It’s calmer. Wiser. Kinder. More grounded in truth, not fear.

And when I tap into it, everything shifts.

What Is the Sage Brain?

Shirzad Chamine teaches that the Sage Brain is the part of us that sees possibilities instead of problems.

It’s the part that says:

  • You can handle this.”

  • “Slow down and breathe.”

  • “There’s something to learn here.”

  • “You’re stronger than you think.”

It’s the calm captain of your ship—steady even when the waves get rough.

The Sage Brain leads with:

  • empathy

  • curiosity

  • creativity

  • calm

  • courage

  • clear-headed action

When you’re in Sage, you don’t react. You respond.

The Opposite: The Saboteurs

PQ also teaches that our fears, habits, and old survival patterns are run by Saboteurs.

You might know some of them:

  • The Judge

  • The Controller

  • The Avoider

  • The Hyper-Achiever

  • The Pleaser

  • The Hyper-Vigilant

And many more.

These voices are loud when stress hits, when uncertainty rises, or when you try something new. They protect you—but in outdated, unhelpful ways. The Sage Brain replaces fear with clarity.

How I’m Harnessing My Sage Brain

This part has been powerful for me.

When I feel my Saboteurs kicking up—risk aversion, self-doubt, or the urge to overthink—I pause.

Then I ask:

  • What would my Sage say right now?

  • What’s actually true—not what my fear is whispering?

  • How can I move forward without rushing or freezing?

Real-life example:

When exploring new partnerships for my business, my saboteurs love to jump in with:

  • “This might not work.”

  • “Play it safe.”

  • “Stick with what you know.”

But my Sage says things like:

  • “Be curious.”

  • “Let’s try this.”

  • “Growth takes courage.”

  • You’re ready for more than you think.”

That shift—just a few seconds—changes everything.

How You Can Strengthen Your Sage Brain

You don’t need a huge routine to start. Small steps work beautifully.

Try this:

  • Pause for 10 seconds and focus on one sensation

  • This  quiets your Saboteurs and opens the door for Sage to step in.

Then ask:

  • What is the gift or opportunity here?

  • What would the calm, wise version of me do?

  • How can I move forward with clarity instead of fear?

These tiny moments help retrain your brain. You slowly build new pathways—ones that support peace, resilience, and confidence.

When we lead from the Sage Brain:

  • our decisions are cleaner

  • our relationships feel lighter

  • we bounce back faster

  • we trust ourselves more

  • we stop reacting from fear

  • we start acting from purpose

It feels like stepping into steady, grounded leadership—one calm choice at a time.

A Thank You to Shirzad Chamine

I want to give full credit to Shirzad Chamine, the founder of the Positive Intelligence program, for opening this door for so many of us.

His work has helped me understand my mind, my patterns, and my potential in a deeper way. I’m still learning. Still practicing. Still rewiring old habits.

But I can already feel the shift.

I hope you do too.
